Tiffany Wang

What and where are you studying?

Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA)

Why did you come into gaming?

From Oregon Trail to Monkey Island, Super Mario to Sims, playing video games has always been a favorite pass time. So you can imagine my excitement when I found the opportunity to combine my hobby and my studies into a career of developing games. It's an interesting, challenging, and above all, fun industry to be working in.

Why EA?

Deciding to come on for full time with EA really came down to having an awesome summer internship experience. I felt like I was regarded not as an intern, but as any other member of the team. Despite only working for a few short months, I was able to learn and accomplish a lot and still have a blast. It's a work hard, play hard environment, and that's the type of culture I was looking for.

What are your future ambitions?

All inhibitions aside, I want to become a pastry chef or a cook for some great restaurant. But more realistically, I would like to learn more about computer graphics and animation and make animated films.

Why did you do an internship at EA?

During the previous summer, I had interned at another smaller game company, which peaked my interest in working in games. I decided to pursue an internship with EA to further expand my industry experience and to get a feel for working at a larger, more established studio.

What did you do on your internship at EA?

During my internship at EA I was a user interface software developer on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 for the Xbox 360. This involved programming a lot of the in-game menus and screen elements and even having the opportunity to own new features for player customization and menu navigation.

Outside of work, I was interviewed by MTV as part of an EA interns spotlight article and survived camping, white water rafting, and eating some atomically spicy habanero burgers with the other interns.

All in a day's work...

What did you learn from EA, (ie what experiences did you have)?

Besides becoming a more experienced software developer and learning new skills like Flash scripting, one of the coolest things about being at EA was having the opportunity to work with a diverse group of talented people and getting an insider's view of the games industry. On almost a daily basis I was working alongside artists, producers, and engineers of different disciplines and learning about the different kind of work they did on the team.
